The design intention was to provide a comfortable, functional space in keeping with the heritage style of the building. This was achieved using contemporary pieces with a nod to traditional form. As an example the kitchen incorporates all modern fittings and fixtures. The design and colour of the splash tiles reflect the old steel framing of the windows. 

Calcatta marble style porcelain stone alongside metallic highlights such as brushed chrome tapware are evident in the bathrooms to again further illustrate the sense of luxury as requested in our brief. 

Colours were kept light and warm to brighten the rooms and to compliment the boldly coloured original floorboards. 

Wellington artist Jane Blackmore’s artwork is featured in the dining area. She is passionate about nature which is evident in her collection of works, which are predominately flowers, abstractions or landscapes and symbolise peacefulness and stopping to be present in the moment. 

There is minimal natural light in these spaces, so carefully selected side and overhead lighting was used to increase flexibility around brightness, providing both ‘mood’ and ‘task’ lighting options.
