The 5-star Hilton will be the most visibly prominent structure and the contemporary design of the building draws on indigenous culture and traditions to reflect a character that is familiar and appealing to the people of Papua New Guinea.
Papua New Guinea’s art and culture has influenced the design of the facades with the “tall shields” inspired by the war and ceremonial shields of Papua New Guinea. The pattern of the façade is drawn from traditional modern Papua New Guinea graphic and textile design. The lush natural vegetation of Papua New Guinea will be used extensively, including planting on the exterior of the hotel building itself to provide screening from sun and to afford privacy.
Our aim was to further integrate these concepts internally and deliver a 5 star product that reflects the global Hilton brand with a memorable experience for hotel guests. The majority of hotel guests will be business visitors but the hotel will also draw local clients to conduct meetings and conferences encouraging integration with the wider business and local community.
Our intent was to provide a harmonious link to Papua New Guinea’s culture, heritage and exotic surrounding by highlighting its natural resources, materials and hidden gems throughout the interior space. This is evident through the use of patterns, colours and layers of texture from raw materials, modern lines, luminous objects with a focus on precious metals to provide warmth and understated luxury.
“Our intent was to provide a harmonious link to Papua New Guinea’s culture.”
